Voie de la Liberté - Liberty Road
'Voie de la Liberté' or 'Liberty Road'. This follows the route taken by General George Patton's 3rd Army, from Cherbourg in Normandy across France to Metz and north to Bastogne in Belgium. At each of the 1,446 kilometres there is a stone marker or 'Borne'; the first lies outside the town hall in Ste Mere Église in Normandy. It is an echo of the road running south from Verdun, the 'Voie Sacrée' of the First World War.
